Types of UPVC Door Handles
It's important to choose the right replacement Upvc handle for your home if handles are in need of replacement. Locksmiths can provide and fit high-security uPVC handles with added security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Please check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handles will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rod that pivots around a point. When you apply force to the end of the bar, the fulcrum is likely to turn in the direction the force is applied. This rotates the fulcrum, increasing the applied force which allows you to lift or move something that would require more force if you attempted to apply it directly to the load.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the maximum movement. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The greater the length of the lever the greater the advantage in terms of mechanical. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing distance from fulcrum point to the point you are applying force by the distance between fulcrum point and the end of lever.
Levers also have various effects based on how the forces are applied. For instance a lever of class 2 is inclined to turn in the opposite direction when the effort force is applied (like a teeter-totter). The forces created by pushing on the handle of a front door can produce rotational effects that are similar to these.
However, levers don't create energy. They multiply the force by changing small amounts of effort applied over a lengthy distance into larger amounts of force applied over smaller distances. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move huge amounts of cargo. This is also the principle behind levers found in many everyday tools such as crowbars and fishing rods, hammer claws and even your legs when you sit on the hand brakes of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also known as upvc door handles , feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. These come in many variations and finishes and can be used with a variety of materials, including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the outer and inner door, with screws and spindles included. They are available in both hand- and non-handled versions to meet the needs of different users.

These locks can be used to replace existing upvc door. The levers are lifted to open all multipoint locks, and the key is turned to lock or close the door. They offer some extra security in comparison to traditional lever door handles because the locking function is only accessible by entering the door with keys unless the door is deadlocked.
They are not as safe as a cylinder lock, but they're an affordable way to add extra security to your home. The only downside is that they do not provide the same level of security as a cylinder lock, and they don't restrict access to your home if the door is left open.
We stock a large number of lever pad upvc handles manufactured by leading manufacturers in the market. They will therefore be made with high quality components. They are also typically supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
They usually are designed to work with the 92mm lock or a replacement model called a Paddock Lock. They will feature an 82mm cylinder centre on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They also come with two spindle followers. Some are supplied with the backplate inserted, while others can be removed to accommodate different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches, the simplest of all door handles, are utilized. The lever is pushed downwards to open a latch inside the door, which can be locked using a key. Certain lever privacy handles operate on the same principle however with an additional snib, similar to the doorknob.
A snib can be a very useful tool, especially in homes where security and privacy are important. If your spouse is expected to arrive at home late from work, you can apply the snib so that they won't be able to enter until they're ready to come in. This kind of handle can also be put in on doors inside, such as those in bedrooms where you want to limit access from outside.
In certain situations, snib buttons can cause problems, particularly in the case of doors and locks that are warped. If the snib button was accidentally pressed or by someone who is not familiar with it, the door could be slammed and you locked out. You can usually get in by knocking the door frame or letterbox. However, this is not ideal.
If your uPVC has a snib we recommend replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These can be retrofitted over pull handle kits with double turns and come with cover plates to hide existing holes for a seamless install. The E-LOK uses a smart app to enable you to unlock the door with mechanical keys or RFID cards, and can be set up with passcodes for safe entry and convenience. The system has been tested to 200,000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles are constructed of solid metal and comply with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This popular handle style is used for front doors. It has the advantage of preventing the door being opened without an outside key in the event that the lock has not been deadlocked. This is accomplished by a 'pad' shaped external handle that locks in the gap between the handles and lock case to prevent the latch from being pulled back or the door being opened.
This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks that employ split spindle mechanisms. This type of operation requires that the internal lever handle and the external pad handle are both fitted to the same lock case. This can be a simple replacement for the current uPVC handle, but it may also require a lock case change or a new set of handles to handle furniture.
These aluminium lever/movable pad handles are suitable for uPVC doors and come with a maintenance free slide bearing, spring cassettes, and fixing lugs supplied. These handles feature a euro-profile cut out, and can be fitted to many uPVC or wood doors.
The lever moveable pad is available in a variety of designs to fit a broad range of multipoint locks. They are designed to work with split spindle locks with a centre cylinder of 92mm and require a separate set of split spindles that is supplied by the manufacturer of the lock.
